Dr. Daniel R. Possley, DO – Orthopedic Spine Surgeon

Dr. Daniel R. Possley has built his career around a simple but powerful belief: “The purpose of pain is to move us into action… it is not to make us suffer.” As a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon, he has dedicated his life to helping people move beyond pain and reclaim the activities they love.

Before settling in Colorado, Dr. Possley served as a combat surgeon in the U.S. Army, where he gained invaluable experience treating complex injuries under the most demanding circumstances. His surgical training began at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, continued through residency at the San Antonio Military Medical Consortium, and culminated with a fellowship in spine surgery at William Beaumont Hospital—one of the busiest and most respected programs in the world.

His military service shaped not only his surgical expertise but also his philosophy of care. As a Resident Education Director, Adjunct Faculty member for the Interservice Physician Assistant Graduate Program, and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine, Dr. Possley has mentored countless young physicians and contributed to the advancement of military medicine. He also served as a consultant for the Army Surgeon General’s Telemedicine Program, helping bring specialized care to soldiers around the globe.

Today, Dr. Possley brings that same dedication to patients across Colorado, with clinics in Lafayette, Brighton, Boulder, and Denver. Patients know him not only for his technical skill but also for his conservative approach: surgery is never the first option. Instead, he works closely with each individual to explore non-operative solutions, explaining every step clearly so that patients feel informed and empowered in their care. When surgery is necessary, his advanced training and precision ensure the best possible outcomes.

This patient-first philosophy has earned Dr. Possley recognition both locally and nationally. He has been named one of 5280 Magazine’s Top Doctors and remains an active member of leading professional societies, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society. But what matters most to him are the stories he hears every day from his patients—stories of people who walked into his office in pain and walked out with their lives restored.

From the operating room to the exam room, Dr. Possley blends military-tested discipline with compassionate, individualized care. Whether you are seeking relief from chronic back pain or exploring surgical options, he is committed to walking beside you on the path back to health and movement.
